Nantes in Brittany : Not for the moment ! by Seb
In February, Mr Balladur who is a French politician, made a report about French regions.
In fact, French government would like to have less regions (15 instead of 22), and give them more power. So, in this report, we can find “Loire-Atlantique”, which is in “Pays de la Loire”, which would come back in Brittany. Come back because before 1919, it was part of Brittany, but a reorganization of the regions organized by Mr Pétain, caused the separation of this department. And since this time, Nantes' people would like to come back in Brittany. Indeed, a survey which was made in 2005 said that 65% of Loire-Atlantique people are favorable to regroup their department in Brittany. And, this survey also said that only 34% of Britons are OK for this reattachment, and 27% didn't want that...
Moreover, after this report, Mr Ayrault who is Nantes' mayor sent a letter to express that he doesn't wish to be part of Brittany. So it is a thunderclap (coup de tonnerre) for the reattachment.
In brief, the situation is stopped. We don't know when the French President will take a decision for this question about regions.
