Croke park stadium

Croke park is the principal stadium of Ireland and the home of the GAA( Gaelic Athletic association)

 Its capacity is of 83 200 seats, it is the fourth biggest stadium in Europe, after Camp Nou in Barcelona, Wembley in England and San Siro in Milan.

The stadium is used only for the Gaelic sports(hurling and Camogie), it was used for the first time for rugby and football during the travel for the new Aviva stadium.



 

The place of Croke park was originally a pitch known under the name of Jones Road Sport ground.

After the foundation of the GAA in 1884, this ground was used regularly for the Gaelic sports.

On 20^th November 1920, Croke park was a theatre of a massacre, Britain soldiers entered in the stadium during a football match between Dublin and Tipperary and they shot in the crowd. 14 people died during this tragedy, 13 spectators and 1 athlete.

In 1924, a stand of Croke Park was baptised in honour of Michael Hogan, captain of Tipperary team.

The day of the tragedy is known under the name : BLOODY SUNDAY
